Introduction
The purpose of this blog is not for me to set a limit on what you think a home business is. This blog will however, present my successes and other experiences as evidence of what I think an ideal home business should and shouldn’t be.
What An Ideal Home Business Should Be
So, let’s start with the should be’s. An ideal home business should allow you to get away from the drudgery of that 9-to-5 circle track race where the scenery’s always the same, there’s never a winner and you never have a finish line. You simply quit racing when you’re 65. If you can’t relate to what I just said, you’re wasting your time here and you should probably get back to work.Once you’re out of the rat race that I just described, your home business should allow you the freedom to do what you would like to do, such as spending time with your family. You should be able to adjust your schedule to fit your needs instead of adjusting your needs to fit your schedule as most working class American jobs necessitate.
And lastly, your home business should also provide you with an income that fits your lifestyle. If you have to live in a shack and only run the hot water heater once a week to keep within the allowable living budget that your business provides, then I would not consider it an ideal home business. Your business should be able to afford you a trip when you’d need one. It should be able to provide a very comfortable lifestyle. If it provides a lavish one, then congratulations, you’re living the American Dream.
What An Ideal Home Business Shouldn’t Be
There is a big difference between a home business and just working from home. There are plenty of work at home jobs that you can get involved in. Sitting at your computer 24/7 typing your fingers off day in and day out for some other company is definitely not a home business. While the ability to work at home is one characteristic of an ideal home business, what I just described in the last sentence is really just running the rat race at home. It doesn’t neccessarily give you more time. In fact, in order to make decent money at it, you have to put more time into it leaving you with less of your own time. I’m not knocking work at home jobs. I’m just pointing out how far they are from a real home business.
With that out of the way, let me point out what an ideal home business shouldn’t be. Have you heard of MLM? Companies that use MLM or multi level marketing as a primary means of advertising will try to convince you that the ideal home based business is pushing their products at all of your family members and future ex-friends. The kicker is that they will usually charge you a signup fee(something like 99 bucks) for the right to sell their exclusive products. Does that sound ideal to you? Does that sound like a home business to you? The key here is that owning your own business should not involve paying a fee to do high pressure face-to-face selling for another company. As I’m writing this, I can hear all of those top MLM earners(the ones you see featured on MLM websites with their picture and 7 figure income displayed) chipping their teeth at me about how ignorant I am. Well, they’re probably right. So instead of arguing that, I’ll just refer them to my Introduction post.
There are probably a lot of other things that an ideal home business shouldn’t be, but these are the main ones that I wanted to point out.
